The Chris Kringle Libation
At Bex, we are always whirling in a tornado of food trends, ideas, and inventions.
We pay attention to trends but try to avoid pretentiousness and complicated trends. A fun trend this holiday season is a Grinch-themed drink, which we have put our spin on. Published in 1957, How the Grinch Stole Christmas! is a classic children’s book by Dr. Seuss, whom Chef Becky is cousins with. It is one of his most-known books, and was adapted into a film in 2000 that divided audiences: did it reveal the subtle darkness of the original work, or go too far in its frightening of small children?
Regardless, we researched the trending Grinch drink and found that the recipe varies depending on who you talk with. For Bex’s take, we went with a creamy version called the Chris Kringle, named after Chef Becky’s Executive Assistant Chris Callahan.
The Chris Kringle
This colorful holiday drink is relatively easy to make and a great conversation starter and winter libation. This drink is named after Chef Becky’s Executive Assistant, Chris Callahan.
Make a simple syrup one of two ways:
Easy way: make a simple syrup (sugar + water) and add peppermint flavoring
Challenge yourself: meltdown some candy canes in a saucepan til liquid.
Have fun with the garnishes for this drink using your creativity and festive candies you might have on hand. Go as big and bold as you like or keep it classic with a stately Candy Cane.
Cheers, and Happy Holidays from your friends at Bex!
